Those of us who have the pleasure of living in Louisville, KY have known for years just how far our city has come. This just so happens to be the year that the rest of the world is catching on. It seems to be one positive boost after another for our lovely city. Let’s take a look back at what we’ve accomplished in just a few short months.

1. Voted top Destination for 2013

At the end of last year CNN posted an article displaying Lonely Planet’s Top 10 U.S. Destinations for 2013, and Louisville was number one. Some of the things that set this vote apart was the fact that it was the first time ever that it was unanimous. They also kindly let the world know that we were not just about the Derby; we have a booming social scene, the best bourbon, and stand-out restaurants for our foodie friends. They also called us the next Portland, OR.

2. Louisville Shocked the World in Allstate Sugar Bowl

Oh Florida, you didn’t even see it coming, or maybe you did. Calvin Pryor made the prediction and we lived up to it without a hitch. We went on to beat Rutgers in Late November.

3. A True Foodie Destination

Last year Zagat listed Louisville as it’s pick for “foodie destination.” They featured local favorites such as: Proof on Main, the Brown Hotel, and several of our bourbon distilleries. This year we are in the running for Southern Living’s Tastiest Town. Voting will go on until February 28 at 11:59pm.

4. Louisville’s own Jennifer Lawrence Wins the Oscar for Best Actress

J-Law has officially become a household name. Here in Louisville we’ve known how awesome our girl was for a while. The A-List actress comes from our Indian Hills neighborhood, and winning the Oscar the other night in one of the most prestigious categories isn’t the only way she’s giving our city a great name; she radiates that Kentucky charm, loves bourbon and horses, and certainly has that Louisville sense of humor, not to mention she is drop dead gorgeous like all our Kentucky ladies. The picture below was featured in The Courier Journal and it is Jennifer celebrating with her family after the big win. She is the second youngest to ever win The Academy Award for Best Actress.
